Austin Allsup with Josh Gallagher of the Voice - Surf Ballroom, 460 N Shore Dr. Clear Lake (641-357-6151). Allsup is a rock star in the making, and he offers intense, multi-dimensional lyrics and strong vocals that can only be described as a perfect mixture of Eddie Vedder with the lyrical prose of Lucinda Williams. The similarities to Lucinda Williams don't end there, because both artists have famous fathers that loom large over their music.  Doors open at 8 pm. Tickets $15 in advance/$18 at the door.

Exhibit: Vibrant Bounty:  Chinese Folk Art from the Shaanxi Region- Charles H. MacNider Art Museum(Kinney-Lindstrom Gallery), 303 2nd St. SE (641-421-3666). As brilliant as the petals of a lotus and as bold as a spring storm, these folk paintings and artifacts of rural China reveal a national spirit that is as charming as it is vital. By depicting scenes of labor within lavish pastoral settings, the paintings celebrate the farmers’ unity amidst the immensity of nature. The artifacts in Vibrant Bounty reveal a humanity that aids us in understanding a people half a world away. Vibrant Bounty: Chinese Folk Art from the Shaanxi Region is a program of  ExhibitsUSA, a national division of Mid-America Arts Alliances and The National Endowment for the Arts. Exhibit will be on display until October 18, 2017 - open during normal museum hours.

See the largest grouping of homes on a unified site, ending at a home designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1908, his first in Iowa.
