Recognition and Appreciation
The 12th Annual Volunteer Recognition Banquet was held at the MacNider Art Museum Salsbury Room on October 31, 2014. Nearly 40 volunteers were recognized for their work on behalf of the Volunteer Service Department on various projects including Adopt-A-Street, Adopt-A-Lot, Blue Zones, Beautification, Park Watch, MacNider Museum events, and other special projects including school partnerships, graffiti eradication, tree plantings and administrative assistance.
Mary Clark and Jerry Weiland were this year's recipients of the Shining Star individual awards. Clark holds a regular volunteer position at the Housing Authority office and also helps out at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, MacNider Art Museum, and City Hall. Weiland has been active with Highland Golf Course remodeling, renovating and landscaping projects. He also helps with City tree plantings and clearing the Veterans Memorial Monument in Central Park during the winter.
The 2014 Shining Star Team recognition was awarded to The Nicholson Family. Missy Nicholson, along with her children Veda Bloom and Zerik, her mother Cindy Mostrom and her sister Michele Mostrom, have been involved in several City programs and projects. The family sponsors a parking lot to keep litter free through the Adopt-A-Lot program and is active on the Earth Day Committee. Missy and family has also helped with park painting projects, tree plantings, and MacNider Art Museum mailings.
The City of Mason City thanks all of the generous volunteers who donate their time and talents to helping our community be a happier, healthier, and safer place to enjoy.
