Citizens Police Academy North Iowa is a partnership between the Mason City Police Department, the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff's Office, and the Clear Lake Police Department. The purpose of the Academy is to provide an educational opportunity for community members to learn first-hand about police and sheriff operations, procedures, and training with the goal of enhancing police-community relationships.
Citizens Police Academy participants will have the opportunity interact with administrators, investigators, patrol officers and deputies from each agency and representatives from other segments of the criminal justice system. It is our hope that to give participants insight beyond the “what” and “how” of law enforcement to the “why” of what we do.
Participants will be instructed in multiple areas including; Overview/History of each agency, Patrol , Criminal Investigations, Crime Scene, Use of Force and more. All participants will be encouraged to schedule a ride-a-long with a patrol officer and/or deputy as part of the experience.
The 2017 CPA North Iowa is tentatively planned to start in September of 2017. Citizens Police Academy North Iowa is open to anyone who works or lives in Cerro Gordo County, subject to the following requirements: Participants must be 18 at least years of age and be out of High School, have no felony convictions at all, and no arrests (including misdemeanors) within the past three years.
