Police vs. FIRE Charity Hockey Game

North Iowa Ice Arena

 

 On February 22, 2014 at 7:00 pm, the 4th Annual Battle of the Badges charity hockey game between local firefighters All United under these Colors Before the Game Compliments of Bryon Houlgrave, The Des Moines Registerand law enforcement officers will take place at the North Iowa Ice Arena.  This is the 4th year that theseThe Battle Face Off Compliments of Bryon Houlgrave, The Des Moines Register local First Responders will take the ice to raise money for the North Iowa Committee of Make-A-Wish Iowa. Tickets are available in advance at the Mason City Police and Fire stations, Cerro Gordo Sheriff's Dept, Wayne's Ski and Cycle, American Family - Matt Dodge, Coffee Cat, and any of the players, or at the door for $5.  

Camaraderie - Together for a Good Cause - Make-A-Wish Compliments of Bryon Houlgrave, The Des Moines Register

In its inaugural year, $14,750 was raised, which enabled one lucky boy from Clear Lake and hiA Show of Support, Sportsmanship and Community! Compliments of Casidey Bertrams family to go to Walt  Disney World in Florida for a week.  Since 2011, this fun family event has raised over $60,000 to grant wishes to terminally ill children in north Iowa.

 

In January 2013, the Battle of the Badges received a Silver Medal for External Fundraising Event of the Year in 2012.  This recognizes external fundraising Great Hockey for the Fans with Fast Moving Action Compliments of Bryon Houlgrave, The Des Moines Register events held statewide by individuals, corporations, community groups, schools, etc. that benefit Make-A-Wish Iowa.

 On April 29, 1980, a vibrant, dynamic 7-year-old boy named Chris Greicius realized his lifelong dream to become a police officer. Chris' incredible day included riding in a police helicopter, receiving his own custom-tailored uniform, and becoming the first and only honorary state trooper in Arizona history. Many of those responsible for fulfilling Chris’ wish wanted to do the same for other children with life-threatening medical conditions and founded the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Since 1980, Make-A-Wish has granted wishes to more than 230,000 children around the world.

 

 

SOURCES OF FUNDING

Make-A-Wish finances its work through the generous contributions of individuals, corporate sponsorships,Make-A-Wish - The Real Winner of the Battle Compliments of Casidey Bertram  planned gifts, and grants. In-kind donations of goods and services also help finance the Make-A-Wish mission. More than 77 percent of expenses are devoted the mission of Make-A-Wish -- far exceeding the program service allocation standards set forth by the nation’s leading charity watchdog groups, including the Council of Better Business Bureaus. Make-A-Wish does not raise funds by door-to-door or telephone solicitation.

 

 

VOLUNTEERING

More than 25,000 volunteers generously give of their time and energy to fulfill the mission of Make-A-Wish. Volunteers serve Make-A-Wish chapters across the country in a variety of capacities, including wish granting, office administrative support, special event planning and coordinating, Web site design, development and fund raising, and much more.
