Kids’ Club – Charles H. MacNider Art Museum, 303 2nd St SE., Mason City (641-421-3666).  The January Kids’ Club will be held on Thursday from 6:30-7:30 p.m.! This month’s theme is Snow Fun!

Sammy Miller and The Congregation are on a mission to put the generosity back into jazz. They play joyful jazz that entertains, enriches, and uplifts. Grammy®-nominated drummer Sammy Miller has become known for his relentless focus on making music that feels good as a drummer, singer, and bandleader. Upon completing his master’s degree at The Juilliard School, Sammy formed his ensemble, The Congregation. As a band, they share the power of community through their music—joyful jazz. While the band members have performed and recorded with Wynton Marsalis, Lady Gaga, and Queen Latifah at venues including the White House, Lincoln Center, and the Hollywood Bowl, they have opted to stick together to spread joy throughout the world. Sports Card, Memorabilia and Comic Book Show – Larsen Red Zone Sports, Southbridge Mall, 100 S. Federal Ave., Mason City. (515-890-9920).  LARSON RED ZONE SPORTS will be hosting a sports card, memorabilia, and comic book show Friday, Saturday and Sunday, January 17 to 19 at the Southbridge Mall in Mason City. Show hours are 1pm to 6pm on Friday, 10am to 6pm on Saturday, and 11am to 4pm on Sunday.

A Day of Thunder on the Syrup – North Iowa Events Center, 3700 4th St Sw., Mason City (515-689-4654).  Karts, Bikes, Quads and more will be back lighting up your North Iowa Fairgrounds.  Friday practice will be 7pm – 9pm.  Races on Saturday begin at 1:00pmAdmission:  $10 adult; $5 children 6-12; Free 5 & under.  Pit passes: $20/1 day or $35/2 day.

Exhibit:  Everyone is a Critic III - Charles H. MacNider Art Museum, 303 2nd St. SE (641-421-3666).

In the summer of 2011 the Museum hosted the exhibition, Everyone is a Critic!  The show was so successful we decided to host the exhibition again in 2012.  We took a few years off but the exhibition is back again with Everyone is a Critic III.  A selection of artworks from the Museum’s Permanent Collection will be on display in the Center Space Gallery.  Visitors will have the opportunity to write down their thoughts, feelings, and ideas about these pieces on comment cards.  The cards will be displayed on the gallery walls, next to the artwork, for all to see.  By the end of the exhibition the walls will be covered with visitor comments! Free admission.

Winter Festival – Lime Creek Nature Center, 3500 Lime Creek Rd., Mason City (641-423-5309).  Beat the winter blahs with an adventure-packed afternoon at Lime Creek! Enjoy cross-country skiing, snowshoe hikes, snow bike demo, winter scavenger hunt, candle making, crafts, and marshmallow/hot dog roasting over a campfire. Free for members, $3.00 for non-members over 12 years old. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Live Music:  Juni West – Brix Wine & Whiskey, 107 S. Delaware, Mason City (641-450-1660). Juni West, a singer and songwriter from Iowa, independently released Warm Honey, a limited edition, five-track demo album in 2015. In 2016 she was a selected artist for the Iowa Music Project for her song Creeping Eyes. Performing with a full band, she is currently recording her first full-length album.  Performance begins at 8:00pm.  Free Admission.
