Mason City’s 2019 Housing Fund Application
The City of Mason City is assembling documents and information needed to prepare a Housing Fund application for submission to the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA). The proposed application would create an owner-occupied housing rehabilitation program for the Old Garfield School neighborhood to assist low and moderate income homeowners with bringing their properties into compliance with Mason City’s building and housing codes as well as HUD’s Housing Quality Standards.

The Housing Fund application process has become very competitive and requires documentation of neighborhood interest and eligibility through a neighborhood survey and receipt of applications from interested homeowners. Surveys have been sent to neighborhood residents and we hope to receive an adequate number of responses to qualify our application. Neighborhood residents may complete an application for assistance at:
We must also show readiness to proceed upon a funding award. As such, proposals are being accepted from qualified housing rehabilitation technicians to assist with inspections and on-site construction management. Award of a contract for these services is subject to an award of funding from the IEDA.
