Neighborhood Improvement Matching Grant Program
City Council took steps in 2002 to support neighborhoods in Mason City through:
-
The creation of the Neighborhood Development Specialist position,
-
The establishment of the Neighborhood Services Division in what was then the Community Development Department and is now the Building and Neighborhood Services Department,
-
Improvements in enforcing animal control laws,
-
Funding of neighborhood improvement grants.
This program awards grants of up to $1,000 each to neighborhood associations for projects that improve the neighborhood. Examples of projects include:
-
neighborhood clean-up projects
-
sidewalk repair projects
-
security lighting improvements
-
enhancements to city right-of-way in the neighborhood
-
construction of welcome signs.
The program requires a 100% match, however, the match may include cash donations, donated services, materials or equipment, and volunteer labor.
The Neighborhood Improvement Grant Application may be submitted at any time.
