Dog Walker Watch
DogWalkerWatch_Small_logoDog Walker Watch is a crime awareness program that encourages dog walkers throughout our community to assist as extra "eyes and ears" in preventing crime.  Anyone who walks routinely in their neighborhood, even without walking a dog, is encouraged to participate.

Participation in Dog Walker Watch starts with a training class where participants learn to effectively observe and report criminal activity.  Those who know there neighborhood best then become more aware and less hesitant to report suspicious activity.

The goal of Dog Walker Watch is to let criminals know that dog walkers are vested in their community and they DO REPORT suspicious activity.  If criminals know their activity is likely to result in a call to the police, they will go elsewhere.DWW_dog_portrait_small

The vast majority of the criminal complaints reported in Mason City are property crimes such as thefts, criminal mischief, and trespassing.  Partnership between dog walkers or other walkers routinely who are out and about in their neighborhoods and the police department can lead to those criminal activities being uncovered or prevented.
